Character & Training

Singapuras are known for their outgoing, playful, and highly intelligent nature. They are very curious and love to explore their surroundings. As extremely people-oriented cats, they always seek the company of their owners and love to be involved in all activities. They are gentle yet energetic. Despite their small size, they are very agile and eager to learn, making them receptive to targeted training and fetch games.

Living & Exercise

Because they are very sociable, Singapuras should not be kept as single cats. They need plenty of stimulation and toys, such as cat trees or puzzle feeders. Since they are not afraid of heights, secured climbing possibilities should be available. They are ideal apartment cats, provided they receive enough attention and engagement from their human housemates.

Health & Grooming

The breed is generally considered robust, but there are breed-specific health aspects due to the small gene pool, such as pyruvate kinase deficiency anemia. Good health care at the vet is essential. Coat care is extremely simple due to the short, silky fur without undercoat and is limited to occasional petting or brushing, which further strengthens the bond with the human.

History

The Singapura originally comes from the streets of Singapore, where it lived as a stray for a long time. In the 1970s, US expatriates discovered these special cats and began targeted breeding. Its history is defined by its origins in the Asian city-state, which also gave it its name. It was only later officially recognized as a distinct breed, and its rarity makes it sought after worldwide.
