Character & Training

Often described as a 'velcro dog,' the Bernedoodle is exceptionally loyal and affectionate. They inherit the Poodle's high IQ and the Bernese's steady temperament, making them intuitive and sensitive companions. While they are generally eager to please, a slight stubborn streak may surface during training. Their playful and sometimes goofy behavior makes them wonderful partners for children and excellent candidates for therapy work.

Living & Exercise

Their adaptability depends largely on their size. While Tiny and Miniature varieties adjust well to urban living, Standard Bernedoodles thrive best in homes with spacious, fenced yards. They require moderate to high daily exercise and significant mental stimulation to stay balanced. Because of their thick, wavy coats, they are sensitive to high temperatures and prefer spending time in cooler environments or climate-controlled homes.

Health & Grooming

Generally healthy due to hybrid vigor, they may still be prone to genetic issues like hip dysplasia or skin allergies. Their low-shedding coat is a blessing for allergy sufferers but a challenge for owners; it requires consistent brushing to prevent painful mats and debris buildup. History

The Bernedoodle's history began in 2003 in Ontario, Canada, with breeder Sherry Rupke of SwissRidge Kennels. The intention was to combine the 'gentle giant' spirit of the Bernese Mountain Dog with the Poodle's hypoallergenic qualities and longevity. This successful crossbreeding quickly sparked a global trend, establishing the Bernedoodle as a staple among modern designer breeds valued for health and temperament.
